Well, I decided to convex my Beckers. My BK9 and BK2 were looking kinda dull, so I took to the belt sander. I ended up convexing 4 knives yesterday and only cut myself twice :D (the BK9 was one of the culprits).

They are super sharp now. After using these knives quite a bit, I feel the edge-holding of 1095CroVan is underrated, I have been very impressed with these knives. I put the BK9 through some serious abuse and the factory edge stayed sharp for a long, long time.

Thanks for the pics, that land is amazing. And those things look shaarrrrrp.

Looks like you did an excellent job on those.

Have you used them yet, and can you tell the difference?

Thanks for the comments!

I have not used them with the new edges besides cutting paper and shaving arm hair.:D They are sharper than the factory edge so I expect a performance increase. However, Becker knives come with a good thin edge, so they don't need to be reprofiled like many other knives I have tried. I think I remember Toooj saying that they are given 20 degree bevels on each side. I just personally prefer convex edges because they are easier for me to maintain than V or scandi edges. YMMV

Those look great! I've been thinking about doing the same thing. What grit did you start/finish with?

very nice

I love my 2 convexed

I can really get it hair popping sharp and can keep it maintained very easy

good job

I did mine by hand on sheets of 150 wet/dry sandpaper

then went up to 600 and then up 2200

finally i use a course and fine grit compound on a leather strop

Very good.I have the same kind of grind on my bk2 that I did with my 1x42 belt grinder.
Those edges will hold up well enjoy!!

I started with 120, and worked up to 600. I didn't have to remove much metal because they are already ground nice and thin. Then I stropped it with various grits on polishing wheels.

Looks good, bud! I figured the BK2 would be a good candidate for convexing, but it's cool to see the '9 taking a convex, too.

Wow, how long did that take you? I've never tried it by hand.
