the question is if you can do it the same way you convex a knife, as in can you use the sand paper and mouse pad method?

thanks for any and all help and comments

ok thanks, ill try that, was just looking for ideas, and since i dont have a belt grinder i was looking for a way to do it by hand

the pringles can method only works for a recurve. for a hawk blade you might want something a little larger than a mousepad. i use a belt sander for convexing knives or anything that needs a convex edge put on it. check out post 92 in this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=585019&page=5

wow, i watched your vids wile i was at it and ya, just wow, i think i may take the easy rout when my hawk gets in and send it and my esee 6 to you, im not a member of any services but it looks like your prices are more than fair.

Yeah, convexing an axe in the same manner you would a knife is no problem - even less so with a hawk as you can easily just pop the head off and not deal with the handle getting in your way. If you're not happy with the profile already on the blade though, definitely use a file to do the re-profiling and save the sandpaper for refining the edge and smoothing out the arc.... otherwise, you're going to be wasting a lot of time and sandpaper!

Refer to this post to see the method in action on a hatchet head I'm restoring for my grandfather

send me an email and i'll shoot you my info. i need to make a new vid of k II cutting the free hanging newspaper since that one is a little dark. i cut down a tree that is 8" across along with 2 smaller ones and it still shaved hair and push cut newspaper.
i have pictures of the tree at my website with k II stuck in the stump.
