We're discussing sharpening in the RAT sub-forum:

loaded strops are all I use to maintain my edges, both plain and convex. The only time I use a diamond stone or crock sticks etc, is when I have damaged the edge. I also use sandpaper/mousepad on my convex edges when they get damaged (also use a smooth steel for re aligning the edge if it is rolled or dented before hitting it with the mousepad/sandpaper).

The poster quoted uses only a strop on his knives unles one is damaged, He notes "plain edges" or set grinds like a factory 30* or 40*

I was under the impression from time spent here in the past, that constant stropping of a knife's blade would convex the edge, regardless of how it started.

I hope someone can clarify this for me.

Thanks! :)

It depends on how you strop, blade geometry, blade steel, edge angle etc.

But as a general rule, yes, constant stropping will convex the edge eventually.

It will over a few weeks of stropping round the shoulder and give it a very slight convex but its only taking down the high points and the rest of it is based on how much angle variation you had in your hand sharpening.
