Convexing on Mousepad & Sandpaper — How 2 Do the Tip?!

Hi, I've been checkin' out all kinds of clips on YouTube on how to convex grind a knife. I've been pretty successful, except for when it comes to the tip.
I keep rounding it off! I've tried different sharpening techniques, soft pressure, hard pressure, tip first, choil first etc.
The tip is still sharp, but it's rounded off. I want to be able to get it pointy — like the pros can do.

What do you guys do in order to get the tip pointy while sharpening on a mousepad with sandpaper?

Here's my Benchmade Nim Cub II, which I just finised:

The tip is very hard to sharpen on a mousepad.
Generally I do about 20 strokes on the tip alone, and that will grind out a pointier tip also.
I also take a stone and run it down the spine, and gives me a pointy tip.

Its easier to keep the tip if you start choil to tip and when your reach the tip ease up on the pressure.

Yeah, I've done that as well, but it's not something you can keep doing all the time, because eventually you'll have a spear point hahaha!

That's exactly how I sharpen, but I still get a bit of a blunt tip. I mean, I've sharpened pre-convexed knives before and then it works, but when I regrind my regular v-edges and scandis then I just keep on rounding off the tips! Thanks though, I guess I just need to practice more. It's just a shame to have to do it on supersteels...

Hard to tell what you're doing wrong without seeing it in action:confused:, but I use the tip to choil motion and all my blades have nice needle pointy tips.

...maybe your mousepad is too soft?? ...how did the rest of the edge turn out for you?
