I like the factory edge on the knife and performs well, but am thinking about convexing it to further improve cutting efficiency..........also what kind of edge is best for this steel(s30v) toothy or polished as Ill be using it as slicer mostly.Like how coarse edge on it bites into materials and how agressive it is but am not sure how well it will hold up under prolonged use! All input is welcome!

I got a 20CP Para2 from a fellow member who convexed the edge, it's a slicing demon.

Will probably convex it, as all my knives are convexed, just am not sure about putting a coarse or fine edge on it.........or somewhere in middle.I need knife that cuts soft materials agressively, and am not interested in push cutting paper or shaving!!!

I like a toothy edge best on S30V knives, but that's just my preference. I'm relatively new to the steel but I generally go straight from a 600-1000 grit stone to a couple licks on a strop and then leave it alone. I haven't had much success at all at putting a good polished edge on either my Para 2 or Orange Manix 2, both in S30V. When I do put a nice polished edge on them, they don't seem to hold it for very long at all.

I am a big fan of convexed knife blades. Most of mine are. In my experience I cant get my convexed knives as sharp as "v" grinds but they last longer (I assume since there is more "meat" on the blade) and it is more forgiving/easier to maintain. All you need is a leather chunk and some honing compound.

By "convexing" the blade do you mean "hollow ground" blade?

Quite the opposite, actually. Rather than giving the blade a inward sweep and thinner edge, convexing will give it a round as opposed to flat shape and a more reinforced edge for what is usually better edge retention.

Above you can see the different GENERAL grinds.

Convex is nr 6.

I say general because makers can do some amazing things with a grind, do hollow grinds with a convex edge, extremely high hollow sometimes almost like a flat ground blade etc. I consider the grind on a production Spyderco such as the Para a Semi Full Flat ground, a FFG is a grind from spine that tapers to the edge, no secondary angle, these can be seen on Tom Kreins regrinds on many Spydercos (resource:The Complete Encyclopedia of Knives from A.E. Hartink)

All good IMO, just different.

I've been slowly convexing my CTS-20CP Para also. I just use 1000 wet/dry paper to touch it up and then black and white compound on a leather strop.

Im gonna do it over the weekend on a belt sander.........piece of cake:) cant wait to see the difference!

Will post pics, I have convexed few knives.........some fully and some at the edge......I almost fully convexed Spyderco Moran and it just cuts second to none:)...I use it in kitchen and basically its my go to knife for any cutting task!!!!!!!!When it gets dull few passes on strop get it to hair splitting sharp again.
