Convince me to buy a 14

Yeah, I know thats like asking a dealer if I need drugs :D, but here goes:

I have a Kershaw KS1080 that I really like, but it's a little small, so I thought the 14 might be a good choice for EDC.
But, there are a couple of things that keep me from buying one, maybe you can help me out with that.

I own the DPX HEST fixed blade- just from reading the specs, the 14 doesn't seem a lot smaller-a little shorter, thinner and lighter but not much.

I want to avoid buying knives that are too similar, does anyone here have both and can compare the two ? The HEST is pretty thick and doesn't have the FFG the BK14 has, but the 14 is only 0.8mm thinner

I usually like thinner blades for their slicing abilities, so how does the BK14 work in that regard ?

Does anyone know how thick the BK14 handle is with the Izula micarta scales ?
And, final question, can you carry the knife scout style with the TDI belt clip ?
Or would a small teklok fit ?

Thanks in advance for helping me out !
Chris

Bottom line. I do not. leave my house without my 14. its the perfect size and shape to handle basically any needs your every day carry use would require. ive batonned with this blade and it performs incredibly well, and it takes such a nice edge it can handle any small tasks with ease. the spine is pretty thick for its size, so it is a tough little guy, but it is PLENTY thin to be a great slicer as well, in my quest for the perfect edc fixed blade, nothing beats the 14

Oh, and also.. the for the money you spend.... its like a wet dream. :D nothing will come CLOSE to that knife for what it does in my opinion, and especially not a knife in that price line

The first becker knife I ever owned was the BK11. I received it as a birthday present from my daughter the day she was born. I ABSOLUTELY love the 11... but because of sentimental values I never used it very hard but carried it all the time.
I was able to get the 14 out of a skills trade situation and I purchased the zytel scales for it. I have had it on me since it came out of the box. I wear it horizontally on my left side with the handle over my belt buckle. I would forget about using a teklock or the TDI clip and just go for some paracord... You get some in the box...So no additional cost... and its going to carry slimmer.... its not going to fall off your belt... it just works really well. So far it has become one of my all time favorite carry blades... EVEN OVER FOLDERS... yes I still carry 2 folders.... and a leatherman... BUT the 14 is always on my belt. It gets used a lot and the location it is sheathed in makes it super handy during my day and while at work.

To answer if the blade is very slicey... its still a thicker blade... but its fairly slicey and will work just fine for food prep, wood work, and edc chores. However, I have backed the edge on mine out. In my opinion that has enhanced it quite a bit.

And to address the elephant in the room the sheath is great... some are going to say it is crap and it dulls the blade... I have not had any of these issues... and if you do not like the sheath there are tons of kydex makers on this forum... or have fun and do it yourself... that is one of the great things about beckers... you can make them your own...

The benefits of the blade are...

Pretty much everything.

You really do not need convincing... just buy one... You will want to thank Ethan Becker and Kabar in person. ok...ok.... I will calm down now...

$35 bucks from Tomar's knives... is that convincing enough?

Seriously, it is a great little blade and if you get one and for some strange reason you don't like it, you could probably sell it in a day and get your money back...

I had an ESEE H.E.S.T. once, I had it for a couple weeks and lost it in a lake, but I loved it. And If I had $200 I would get a Dpx one. I have a 14 and It is great to. But I would recommend a custom sheath for it if you get one of the older roll stamped smooth coated ones. You will be happy with both.

I tried both the BK14 and the BK11 and they just didn't work for me. Too small for my hands. Besides if I want a knife that small I'd rather have a folder. I love my tweener (BK15) and my larger Beckers, esp. the BK4 (also have the 2 and the 9).

If you buy a BK-14, handle kit & TDI clip, it will become your favorite small knife. Easy on, easy off. Trust me on this. They make the set up 100% better IMO.

Good to hear that it's a good slicer despite the >4mm thick blade.
But is it available with the new coating yet ?

@cold: sadly it's not as cheap over here, the knife alone is 45€ + 18€ for the izula scales and 10€ for the TDI clip
@Hunter Sharp: Yeah, thats one of the reasons I want to buy one :D

Im not sure about the new coating, becausei ordered mine only a 2 months backish, and got the smooth coating that came off fairly easily, but i took off the coating, and left it without a patina and it held up incredibly well to rust than other blades i own that are 1095, i guess the fact that its 1095cro-van helped. but i recently threw a nice plain patina on it, and have faith it will hold up almost as well as a coating would :)

Sorry about that C_Becker, even at a higher price it is a great knife.. I got one a couple months back and have had it stashed in my front right pocket since. I use it everyday for just about anything, I use it in the kitchen and to eat with... It is small enough to forget you are carrying it, but still substantial enough to take care of larger chores. I used it to prune some bushes at my house yesterday evening and also to cut my steak at lunch. I am sure there are better reviews than I can supply on the forum here, but I personally love the knife. It was exactly what I was looking for in a EDC fixed blade. Just order the knife and use it for a while, then see if you still want the scales and the clip. Like others have mentioned, it comes with a bit of paracord, so you can wrap the sheath to give you a loop to slide your belt on if you want to carry it that way. I really like skeletal handle, so you may hold off on the scales until you have had time to see how you like it, you can always wrap the handle too for better grip.

This thread needs some pichers !!! LOL :D

No need to apologise, just so you know why I'm a little hesitant ;)
Sounds like all of you really like the knife, I'll have to check my bank account :D
Guess I'll leave out the TDI clip, but I really like the Izula scales

What do you mean you don't have a 14? :D

I'm from your neighbouring country, and just wanted to say that even with extra shipping costs, the price is still really good. Great blade that won't dissapoint you!

Can't go wrong with the 14. Pick up a couple of them, they are fun to mod. Here is mine stripped and blued with Izula scales.

OKay, I found some comparison pictures

It's quite a bit smaller than the HEST, there's more of a difference than I imagined.

So I guess I'll have to buy one :D
Thanks for all the input guys, will post pictures when it arrives
