Convince me to buy a Microtech Knife! Or not!

I've been bouncing back and forth over whether I should pay up the 280~350 for a brand name. I'd like anyone who's used a Microtech consistently for at least a few months to weigh in on this. How do Microtechs compare to Benchmades of similar style, say, a BM940 and a Microtech Socom Elite [as I own the former and am looking to possibly buy the latter]? How is the fit and finish? Are they comfortable to use? To carry? Any notable issues I should know about? Thanks, guys.

Get one. The Microtechs are top shelf.
I had a Ultratech and sold it but quickly got another. This one stays.

I wish I could get a Microtech OTF -- No debate there. Unfortunately, all Automatic knives are illegal here in Canada.

Here in PA, one can purchase an Auto knife but cannot carry it. I'm a outlaw. :D
Can you not even purchase one?

No, they are considered prohibited weapons, unfortunately. A knife is a knife, but apparently the way it opens still carries some sort of stigma. Also, do you know if I could get screw replacements for the 'tri angle' screws Microtech uses on most of their knives?

i never bought a Microtech nor do i see me buying one in the nearest future.
Don't get me wrong, from what i've been reading they seem like very well built knives.
I just don't like the look of most models but the fact that you need a proprietary tool to disassembly it is the real turn off factor for me.
I mean, i always take out the pocket clips of my folders so just to do that i would need a special tool!
Not for me i'm afraid.

Fair enough, but I really wanted to hear from people who've had experience with their knives. I also do not like the fact that you need extra [expensive!!] tools to disassemble the knife, or even adjust the pivot.

The pocket clip does not need a tool to be removed, anything that fits in the hole in the glass breaker can be used.

Wouldn't that put a strain on the hardware? Also, it doesn't really help with adjusting the pivot... most of my knives seem to need occasional adjustment.

Many folk mess with their knives when they don't have too.
OTF's do not have a pivot screw.
Getting a special tool is no biggie. If you like the knife, and want to work on it, you'll get the tool. I have a spanner-tool for my Strider folders.

Apparently the 2011 Socom Elite's that had the grippy inserts have basic torx screws. An extra $20 just for ONE bit is bad enough for the newer models, never mind getting several, should I want to take the knife apart.

WC- I took apart a folder, once. Just to do it. I will only take a folder apart again if I HAVE to. Strider just recommends rinsing out a dirty folder, drying it and dowsing it with WD40. That works!!

I took a look at Emerson's line-up a few weeks ago, but nothing really jumped out at me. :(

That's ok.
Strider? They are Salt but worth it.
Boker's new Kwaiken folder is my new EDC.

I've heard plenty of good things about Strider knives, but Microtechs appear better to me aesthetically. More organic, somehow.

Microtech does a pretty damn good job of being right between the big 3 (Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade) and Midtechs in product and in price. They use the same materials as the big 3 (G10/aluminum) but have the fit and finish of CRK. I owned several MTs in their past life. Honestly it's hard to convince myself that 1 Socom @ $275 is worth almost two Spyderco Militarys @ $140/ea. ...and $125 just doesn't seem that far away to acquire say a CRK Sebenza or a Strider SnG. I can understand that someone may want to use that "spare" $125 to feed their hooker/blow habit though.

Take a look at the Hogue EX01 Aluminum handled knife (~$165). I would say this it the best comp. for someone weighing against Microtech. I have the G10 model but I believe that the Al one should be the sturdier knife.
