Convince me to replace my Sebenzas

Okay, here goes. I was a regular here about two years ago. I became disenchanted with the "dull" looks and "boring" action of my Large and Small Sebenzas. As you are now guessing, (yes, I AM an idiot), I SOLD them. I have been through a few more forays into other factory-made knives and again, found them lacking. In fact, some of them weren't worthy of being thrown out! I even bought a high-priced custom folder, thinking that would finally satisfy me. Well, it didn't. I am thinking seriously of selling the custom or possibly trading it (and a couple others) for, you guessed it, a Large and Small Sebenza. I can tell you that the solid feel and "the confidence of owning the best there is" is not there with the custom knife I bought. If anyone can talk me into replacing the Sebenzas, I believe someone here could. Thanks, Leo G.

And if we don't talk you into replacing your Sebenzas, there will be a couple more out there for the rest of us to go for :D

You know the drill: they are simple in design, excellent in materials, and unsurpassed in manufacture. If you want something a bit more visually impressive, then go for a graphic or an inlay, or pick up a Mnandi.

I had a large serrated for a year or so; in November I picked up an Umfaan. Since then, I added a small Classic, and a large tanto.

You know you want them ... go for it!

Since you've been out of the loop for a while, you may not know about the new large classic Sebbie's w/wood inlays! There are no restrictions of the numbers the CR shop will be putting out, so you are in luck. If you really want to restart your collection right, try one of these. I hear the wait is not real long; heck...you may even find one through an internet dealer! Maybe arizonacustomknives.com. I just recieved a small classic with silver contrast, pearl inlay, polished blade, and double thumb studs. Sweet. You may want one of these as well! Man, you have a lot of thinking to do! But be assured you returned to the right place. :D

It seems to me from reading your post that you have (at least subconsciously) already convinced yourself and are seeking confirmation. :)I am delighted to join the others in providing that enthusiastic confirmation. You will feel great and it will be a splendid way to start your new year.

Hi Leo

In addition to what all the others have told you- there is a new Large Classic Sebenza out now with "LEATHER" and the Small Classic version with leather will be out on the Spring.

Don't fight it- Take the PLUNGE!

You "will" feel "much" better afterwards.

Take care, Neil

I hear ya. I had several Seb's in varied sizes about this time last year, and sold them all. Now I'm back with a Pheasant Tail-Graphic Large, several smalls, and a Redwood Burl Mnandi. Oh yeah, and a Mountaineer II! And G2 sheaths for my large and small Seb's!

I love several brands' offerings, and will continue to supplement my Seb's with others, but nothing really comes close to the small Seb as a primary everyday carry.

Happens to the best of us!

Professor.

I took the plunge and put my Terzuola ATCF up on the for sale forum. I stated I'd be interested in trading for a small and possibly a small AND a large Sebenza! I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for helping feel like less of an idiot. I have a bootprint on my a** from kicking myself for selling the damn things. I can't say nobody warned me. Thanks again guys. Leo G.

Well, I recently traded my Lg Sebbie for a Small Sebbie (thanks Dennis/Shootist16!), and am waiting for the Sm. Seb to arrive.

In the meantime, I am carrying a backup Benchmade 720 Mel Pardue, and I am definitely feeling very underknifed (if there is such a word/concept). And its not like the BM720 is a piece of junk, its just the Sebbie is so much MORE knife.

BTW, I do have another, pristine, NIB Lg Sebbie sitting in the safe; but don't have the heart to scratch it up for just a few day's usage.

Just think of the money you'll save after you get another Sebenza. Of course, I couldn't stop at just one ;)

The small sebbie is the quintessential pocket knife. Period. If you need fancy then look to the inlays but plain does it for me. The large sebbie is my folding fixed blade. It is a magnum of a knife in a small compact package. The blade geometry on these two is something to be scared of. Don't let the edge touch anything you don't want cut. I shall never love another. Now I think I shall go get a tattoo of a heart with Sebbie in the middle.

I just yesterday sent my beloved large Classic Sebenza to Kenny Rowe for a custom leather sheath with basket weave tooling. I almost cried when I sealed up that package. I hope Kenny doesnt take too long.

Leo!
Talk about a loaded question--I really don't think you are going to find anyone that frequents this page to talk you out of a Sebenza.
However, that's not to say that there are not any other options for you. I just picked up a Ralph EDC in D2 with a titanium frame and integral lock, very similar to a Large Sebenza. It is one sweeeeeet knife!! But I paid almost $500 for it. And I am not sure the extra money I paid, over that of a Sebenza, makes it worth while to me. So I am on the fence about keeping it. I'm a huge D2 fan--I only have to touch up my blades once a week. Whereas on anything BG-42, I have to touch up daily. I do alot of commercial carpentry,so my cutting requirements are different than most. But still, there is alot of value in a Sebenza, in my opinion. And if the rumors are true about CRK switching to S30V, replacing BG-42,and if they can keep the price the same, than I really don't think you will find a better knife for the money than the Sebenza. Take this question over to the main General knife discussion and I am sure you will get plenty of arguments about the topic;)

I worked out a trade for a small Sebenza that should be arriving next week. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again. P.S. Barry H: I've read all that stuff on the general forums, let 'em whirl! Leo G.

:) It arrived today. It's new in the box. It says B 97 on the inside of the scale. I read about this before, but what does it mean. I like it A LOT. I prefer the small as I just take the clip off and it rides in the bottom of my pocket in dress pants. Leo G.

Welcome back Leo! I am still shaking my head over the fact that you got rid of that pair you had. You had just better not tell these fella's in here what that pair looked like before you sent them back to CRK. You'll never hear the end of that one for sure :D I thought that you would hang onto that Terzuola a little longer than you did ;) I haven't gotten around to trying one of the small ones yet, but the two large I have will be with me for awhile. Keepers :)

CRK is the Glock of the knife world. You either love it or hate it. Both are designed to do a job with as little fanfare as possible. They can have my Sebenza when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Eric

I am finally at ease again. I love this little knife. And, man is it sharp! Leo G.

blademan13, go ahead and tell 'em. The two I had before (large and small) began life in my hands with the "dreaded black-coated blades" that CRK is not very fond of. To Chris Reeve's credit, he called me personally on the phone and returned them to new condition free of charge. Man, I AM an idiot. I still can't believe I sold those knives. Oh well, I now have a brand new small Sebenza in my pocket, DOB 12-9-97 with a nylon pouch, box, papers, wrench and CRK "post-it" notes. Anybody else have any of these? They are triangular and kind of faded but cool anyway! Leo G.
