Does anyone have any experience with the Cooking Pleasures knife set?
My Mom sent me the introductory one (Santoku, Paring, and Steel) thinking it's "really good" and "a very expensive set."
Until I received it and started reading up on it tonight, I had never heard of it.
They call 'em "double forged high carbon stainless steel." They are not marked with a steel type.
They are stamped "China" in the ricasso area.
They are pretty heavy for their size, but seem nicely balanced on first use.
Both came sharp enough out of the box to shave arm hair - which was a nice surprise.
Finish seems fine; fit is decent, if not up to the level of my forged Hecnkels.
Definitely nicer than the set my dad got with his Omaha steaks a few years ago.
It looks like they are some kind of a club. I have no idea how much she paid, put it looks like most of the knives are about $80/ea. My first inclination would be to bypass them in favor of a nice set of Victorinox of ESEE/Becker knives, but since they were free (to me) I'll stick 'em in the knife block and give 'em a whirl.
Has anyone tried them? Do you have anything to add, or any opinions on the knives themselves?
