those of you that may do the occasional food prep with your CRK, do you worry abut the grease you use? Thinking about getting a designated insignio for food prep and am looking for some opinions.

Obviously one can be careful but not sure how toxic the CRK grease is.

The CRK grease is food safe. I can’t remember the exact version of Christo-Lube’s Teflon lube that CRK has re-packaged, but I believe it’s this one. I still wouldn’t go out of my way to eat gobs of it, but if you are using it sparingly, should not be an issue.

“ CHRISTO-LUBE® MCG 111 is qualified to MIL-PRF-27617G Types I, II & III and is also registered with NSF as an H-1 lubricant meaning it is acceptable for use in or around food processing equipment”

I've never seen grease ooze out of a CRK. If it does, then you're using way too much grease. If you're getting one from a dealer that came from CRK, then you won't have anything to worry about. CRK applies grease sparingly, you'd think it's liquid gold they are using.

I don't think you will have a problem with the grease. It should be applied in a very thin layer.
My ? is how much food prep are you planning for the knife. IMO folders make poor kitchen knives. Too much cleanup effort for my taste.

Why not get a CRK specifically made for cooking? The blade shape of the smaller 6.5" Sikayo resembles the Insingo. I have had the 9" version for a few years now and it's great for a pocket knife enthusiast such as myself as I would guess it's a little thick in comparison to traditional chef knives.

I use my small sebenza all the time , i only use mineral oil as a lube. But its good to know that their lube is food grade. Actually i only use mineral oil as a lube on my guns, knives because it is safe to handle.

I use an assortment of larges in daily food prep, and have found that 99% of the time any lube is unnecessary. I wash my Sebenzas in hot soapy water , dry and good to go.
