It's really no secret that working out your hands and forearms can improve your balisong routines. We've all had those spring-with-two-handle-grip-strengtheners, gel-balls, eagle catchers and what seems to be an endless line of hand/forearm strengtheners. The problem is, they really only work on one group of muscles at a time, and are far too boring to use all the time (well, for ME anyhow).
Well, after wondering and oogling at this crazy gadget called a "Dyna-Flex", I just had to pick one up. It consists of a plastic sphere with another ball inside on an axis. This creates a gyroscope that you power only with the movement of your wrist and arm. This thing is amazing! It's hard to imagine, even while you're using it, that you're spinning this ball inside at up to (and apparently over) 9,000 RPMs with no electricity or springs. The result: a devilishly random ball that tries it's best to leap from your hand, with up to 32 lbs of force! The faster you get it going, the harder it is to hold on to. After 10 minutes of opening the package, I was sweating from my finger tips to my elbow. The thing that really struck me, was that the movements you end up going through to make it spin, feel a lot like manipulating a balisong. There's a lot of feeling the inertia, and reacting to it. I can't help but think that's beneficial to any bali-nut. That's also what makes it so fun. I actually enjoy using this thing.
This is, hands down, the best hand/arm exerciser I've ever seen. Mind you, it's no replacement for your finger dexterity excercises (rockers and the like). And despite how much I sound like an ad, I can assure you that I in no way am affiliated with Dyna-Flex International.
I'm just blown away by this thing. Check out the link. You guys'll love this thing.
