Hackman Survival Knife..Viet Nam era. I found one on gunbroker but i dont want to be pegged for deal spotting..:jerkit:

Anyone have any info on this piece?

info from the g/b add: Hackman Finland Rare Survival Knife Viet-Nam Era. Stainless steel with hollow handle. Viet-Nam era knife with sheath, this knife replaced the Randall survival knives when Randall ran out. The blade is 6 7/8" long with an overall length of 11 7/8". The Hackman Finland rare survival knife with stainless steel blade 1/4" thick, stainless steel guard and butt cap, with a hollow steel handle for survival equiptment, such as, fishing line and hooks, matches, plastic bags for water and protection from rain, small compass, signal mirror etc.. The handle is wrapped in leather.

Here is a pic w/ non original sheath

Hackman Survival knife, circa early 70's. Well thought of during it's time, Bill Moran use to sell them as a cheaper alternative to his custom knives. I believe Ken Warner and Moran also had a bit to do with designing the knife.

Later, their importer, Garica Sporting goods(of Abu-Garica fishing rod fame) imported a cheaper version by Jacques of Brazil. It is a lackluster knife compared to the Hackman.

Both versions are wanted by military collectors and usually end in $300-400 in excellent shape.

I'm curious to see a signal mirror that fits in a hollow handle.

I had one back in the early 90's when I was in the USAF. Bought it from an Army SF Sgt Major. It was an excellent knife, great chopper for the blade length, and held a real good edge. It was stolen from me by a K9 handler when I pcs'd to Okinawa :(.

what do you mean Bro??

i didnt search the forum before i posted the knife... is kinda like homers DOH!

we dont have a smiley for the facepalm so i type it out... most smilies have the :: w/ the name of what it is in between em.

like this :jerkit: is : jerkit : without the spaces ;)

I had one in the eighties. The blade was fastened to the handle with a hex bolt, I believe. I finally decided I'm a full tang kind of guy, so I sold it to a friend in Florida who still has it. Hollow handles just aren't my thing.
