Kabar announced a new designer today with 3 interesting designs - designed by Les George.
Similar in size to the BK&T BK16, but slightly larger in both blade and handle length: 4 5/8" blade, 4 3/4" handle.
I'm curious to see the street price, and expect them to cost more than the BK16 by about $15-20, but overall, they look pretty nice to me.
there's a drop point, a sheep's foot, and a "reverse tanto" -- which is just pain seax-y. ;)

I want to like them, but not big on short blade fixed blades. that's okay though. 4" and change is still useable. weird the different shapes are different blade lengths. not loving the see through handle setup. not loving the name of these either.

We joke (but it is true) that the hardest part about making knives are the sheaths and coming up with names. While working on this with Les we went through about 30 different name choices. Finally, Les says something to the effect of "I don't care what they are called, just make it something cool." And here we are. Also of note, the sheath is made in Olean, NY as well.

The pictures really don't do the handle justice. It gives off more of a smoke color than clear and there is a honeycomb pattern visible. The handles are clear enough to see that it is a full tang with a cutout similar to the Beckers. Someone on staff here joked we should put pictures under the handles. Back about 110 years or so ago there was a company called Aerial that made "picture knives" with photos under clear handles. We actually made most of those knives for them.

good info. thanks. I like Les's designs, so I'll probably grab one and give it a try once they get to the dealers......
