It's called the CQT - 5.5.

Yes, this blade is fixed. G-10 handle scales with new "tuff-grip" design, perfect fit and finish...1095 steel, RC 58, O/A length 10.25", Blade length 5.25", cutting edge 4 1/4". Kydex lined ballistic nylon sheath with pouch and clasp. They also are making a 6.5" version, too. Awesome piece of knife gear!

That looks awesome. I think that would make a great field utility blade. Is it out now? I think I need one! :D

it's out!

it has a nice thick point but is still needle sharp (the whole geometry), the point is in line with the axis of thrust, so it stabs AND prys superbly!

I don't see it listed on their website yet, did I miss something. If not, any idea when they will be offering them to the public?

Sorry, I am not impressed. Is it a full tang? Why the hole in the handle?

It looks flimsy and full weight prying might snap it.

For $199 there are a dozen blades better designed than that with better steal heat treat etc...

I have to agree with Skam. With all the truly distiguished knives in the world, I think it rates a big so what?

TOPS goes out of their wat to be "tactical" at the expense of honest utility.

Personaly I like it...Would make an awesome folder design

When was the last time you saw a 3/16" (I guess) thick piece of steel broken in two?

TOPS is not known for flimsy knives, and I think it would stand up to substantial prying forces. The tip design looks great, I think it will lend well to primitive skills. I'll be watching for it on their site.

I know from the pics it looks flimsy, but it is rock solid. This knife was not made to ba a wilderness knife, although it could work fine -- it is perfect as a utility tool for SWAT operators & soldiers in an urban conflict environment. it is small enough to carry easily, yet more than stout enough to handle whatever comes at it. The hole in the handle is very much like the deisgn of the handle for the folder. It also reduces weight here and balances the knife superbly. it is soild, I can even do some decent light chopping with it, and yet it moves fast enough to be a back-up weapon.

You gotta hold it to understand. It's beefy and solid. If you work in the type of enviroments like I described above here, you'd know from experience that the vblade design is excellent for the intended purposes.

After getting this and holding it, I became convinced...

Lagarto, I know it's already available -- you can call TOPS at 208-542-0113. I'm sure it'll be up on their website soon -- it's already in their print catalog.

I still think for $199 you can get a better blade. The hilt is way too thin and it would snap or bend easily (where is Cliff Stamp? :D ). The tang has a large hole(s) in it making it less stable. The steel is plain old 1095 which is decent but has serious limitations. It looks like TOPS has put style ahead of utility yet again. It sure has a look at me cool factor though.

As a purely secondary weapon it may be alright but in no way shape or form is it an all round utility blade. At $200 bills they are making a serious profit on it. I think $100 and change is more in line for its price vs value.

How about to name a couple:

For $110 better steal, heat treat, gurantee etc...

Or for $120

There are other quality options.

I hear and understand all your points SKammer.

This blade didn;t grab me until I grabbed it.

I guess, in the end, all I'm saying is, I really like it!

I think Brian is just showing a new knife that TOPS has out. Please don't turn it into a "Swamp Rat Is Way Better" thread! And dear God, please don't call upon the name which shall not be spoken (Cliff Stamp!)

I just randomly picked 2 blades that I would rather have over the TOPS blade. There are many makers that have decent blades that IMHO would be a better bet.

There is no argument here Swamp Rat/Busse blades are better than TOPS in every way imaginable, fact. ;)

As far as Cliff goes name someone else who tests blades to the same extent?

Skammer,

You gotta hold this knife to know anything in comparison to any others...

Swamp Rat is good stuff.

1095 still is my favorite all around tactical steel. Properly heat-treated, it hold an edge well, is felxible for prying, and is easy to resharpen in the field. It's why it is still requested by military and spec ops folks. It's been working well for many many years for them. There's a lot of hype about the new supersteels these days. It's mostly hype.

Yeah I like it.

Been good, you? Will be in Boston all next week teaching at Boston PD. Was just there all last week, too.
