Here's a cool video of Ray Mears rehandling an axe. Someone was good enough to post if for me in the Wilderness Forum when I inquired about how to rehandle axes and hatchets in a pinch in the wilderness. I thought it might be of interest to those here but I was hoping someone in forum could tell me what kind of axe he is using in the video too. First time trying to post one of these videos so I hope that I did it right. Posted link and tried to imbede.

Edit: just put link because couldn't get embedding to work.

To make the handle he is using a Small Forest Axe (from what I can see). The one for which he is making the handle is a hudson bay type head, but I don't know enough to be able to recognize it.

Yep - a GB small forest axe. Also, he's using a bahco laplander folding saw and a S. Djarv Hantverk crooked knife in case you were curious about that as well...

Lastly, to embed videos, you only use the portion after the equal sign, in this case "ar9NxUIrL4"
So you would have {youtube}3ar9NxUIrL4{/youtube} (with "[]" instead of "{}")

Some related trivia: Ray Mears collaborated with Gransfors Bruks to create a new model (unveiled this past December) called the "Gransfors Ray Mears Wilderness Axe":

Ray is quoted, "...the Small Forest Axe is great, but it is lacking in weight and length for good splitting and chopping. I wanted an axe that was a little bit longer, better to swing with two hands, with a heavier head."

Thanks for the info and instructions on embedding videos. The one that he's making the handle for is really the one that i meant to ask about originally but I appreciate the info on both. The shape looked kind of tomahawk like.

Considering the episode he is doing, it is most likely a vintage head. The hudson bay design was an evolution of the hawk/axe designs of the time due to the addition of a poll, which many of the hawk and axe designs lacked at that time.
