Cool, Serrations can be sharpened, well and easily, I did not beleive it.

So I got my Sharpmaker and have been putting razor edges on my Spydies, and an US Knife, and a Kershaw, and SWAKs.

But I tried to sharpen a Henckels Bagel serrted knife and failed miserably. Now I know it was because of the terrible shape of the serrations.

But today a guy came into the store and asked one of those regular questions....

"How do you sharpen serrations?"

So I show him my Sharpmaker and he hands me his serrated Delica II to sharpen if I want.

So I tell him I have never done it but know how.

And he says "Go ahead, give it a rip."

I did.

And it worked perfectly.

The one thing I have noticed is that sometimes I need to give extra attention to tips to get them sharp.

I use one of those Gatco style sharpening systems, which is like a Lansky....at less refined version of the Spyderco Sharpmaker. Generally it works well, but can mess up the tips. I touched up the partial serrations on my Goddard using the Gatco and it came out fine. I think the trick is to touch it up/sharpen it as soon as you dull/damage it rather than say do it once a year....lol.

I picked up one of those goofy Chefs Choice 430 Diamond hones (yeah, don't laugh too loud..it works): works great on the dual serrated cheapo Tri-Star kitchen knives, and the nicer Wusthof serrated ones, too. We got the Tri-Star set as a gift several years back. It may be cheaper to discard them rather than spend the time to sharpen the T-S...lol.

Is your Sharpmaker the newer model, or the older style? I am looking into buying one.
