OK, we've had a bunch of various light threads and others on assorted goodies but none on sunglasses. Come on, I can't be the only shades fan out here. What are some of your favorites?

I'll start us off. Metal framed aviators are my favorite style with these models among my current rotation:
  • Serengeti Drivers (photo-chromatic, gradient)
  • Nikon (dark green, gradient)
  • Swiss Army (mirrored, gradient, w/removable leather side shields)
  • Ray Ban Shooters (yellow, photo-chromatic)
I also have a pair of Bolle glacier glasses... somewhere.

Whatcha got?

Serengeti Drivers are my favorites. Used the same pair for over 10 years; was amazed I got that far without losing them. Sat on them plenty of times and had to re-bend them, but they were great.

Just got a new pair a few months back.

I wear Ray-bans 99% of the time. Either Predators or Wayfarers. I had a set of Orbs that now belong to some waiter at Chili's (where I left them).

I prefer glass lenses, but own a pair of Oakley Pro "M" with both clear and grey "heater" lenses for gun classes.

I am looking for something a tad snappier for work.

Have some Oakleys myself

Had at least two M frames, busted them.

Now I use the Pro M frames for shooting and shooting classes.

I wear some E-wires with blue lenses for casual wear and have the E-wires with black lenses for super bright days.

Been using the Randolph Engineering USAF glasses for about 15 years- only 4 pairs so far. Glass lenses, gold plated frames with skull hugger blades- haven't found anything close. First set got dropped in the lawn in front of a 42" Ariens= bye-bye, 2nd pair lost in a snow bank in NH, 3rd pair stepped in by a drunken friend and mashed, 4th pair still in service. Great glasses for the price- lenses are easily swapped out for prescription's too.

I was an Oakley man for a long time, but I went through too many of them because they would break too easily at the ear stem joints, especially in the field (Army, 9 years). I went back to wearing Gargoyles 85's and have been wearing a pair ever since.

In the movie Star Trek: First Contact, the character Geordi LaForge wears a pair of really cool sunglasses. Can anyone identify the manufacturer or were those shades made specifically for that film? I'm stumped.

Another Oakley fan.

Oakleys have really good clarity and are distortion free. A glass lens would be nice, but the polycarbonate is lighter.

For those of you who are breaking your M-Frames, the new ones have a better design. I've also heard that the transparent plastics are more brittle than the opaque ones.

Here's my list:

M-Frames (the first generation) for biking/snowboarding
--Black iridium lens
--Yellow lens
A-Wires (wish I had the polarized ones)
E-wires
Topcoats
Razor Blades that are cracked.

Ray Ban Cats 3000, polarized. These are cool for the clarity and the polarized lens, but the frames slip on my nose, so I don't wear them anymore.

I use thank you workplace safety glasses for shooting.

I loved the Nikon amber photochromics, but I don't think Nikon is producing them any more.

I also like Revos, but since they don't lighten, they're sorta rough without good sunlight.

I really like Revo's H20 wraps. They are polarized and are extremely clear.

The Revo's above brighten things up for me in poor lighting. My Hobie polarized, however, are too dark.

Oakley Frogskins, and Oakley E Wires.

Oakley because of the customer service. I have had Serengeti drivers, Vaurnet, Gargoyles, and Ray Ban, and Oakley is the best company I have dealt with.

I broke the arm on the Frogskins once, called them and told them about it, and 3 days later had the arm in the mail free.

Have had the entire pair, lenses and all, replaced for $30.

Everybody else was charging as much to repair as it was to replace.

Haven't tried Revo yet. H2O's look awesome though.

Have 3 pairs of Ray Ban Outdoorsman, but don't wear them much anymore. Looking for some new shades and this looks like a great place to start.

Where is a good place to get shades online?

I love the brown lenses in my outdoorsman, I just am not happy with the wire frames. Anyone have any suggestions for a brown lensed pair of shades with plastic or thicker metal frames?

Thanks!

I have needed prescription glasses since I was an adolescent, and will not consider contacts, so I have my sunglasses made up by my optometrist.

They are of high refractive index plastic (so they can be thinner) green tinted, polarized, anti-reflective coating on the back side, gradient mirrored/antiscratch coating on the outside. They block about 95% incident light. I can barely see to get around inside the house, but if I am driving, especially into the sun, they work very well.

I have a pair of Oakley E-wires with black iridium lenses I wear most of the time, especially when I play sports. I love them but since they are so dark, sometimes I have a hard time seeing in the shade.

I also have an old pair of Revos with neutral grey lenses. Great optics, but with the glass lenses and slightly dated style, I only occasionally use them for driving. My next purchase will probably be another pair of Revos.

Well, I got some new ones. I found some at Lenscrafters while waiting for my perscription glasses to be ground, and then I went out on the net, found them for $25 cheaper and snagged them. They are Ray-Ban Highstreet Uptown Ovals with the B-15 lenses. I really like them.

Anyone else really like brown lenses? They seem to have a polarizing effect.

After 15 years of Serengeti Drivers, I have gone to wearing Maui Jim Aviators. In bright sunlight, there is no real comparison. In fog, rain, early morning, I still like the Serengeti.
