Cool video on a 'modern samauri' if there is such a thing..

Really good, Jon. Thanks. I watched ALL of the vids on that page. (The human calculator: YIKES!)

Gill twigged me to this when we met up for Ashokan. Unreal. The original full segment is even more impressive, as it shows him cutting through progressively smaller projectiles. I think he started with a baseball or something like that - and THAT impressed the heck out of me.

Im sure Kohai999 will ring in soon with his usual disdain. haha. I thought it was very impressive.

Truth be told, there was so much editing going on that it's rife for disdain.

Most important is what we didn't see: How many takes before they captured that one glorious shot? Three? Fifteen? Forty four? No mention that this was the only.

That's also why I enjoyed the calculator guy. No edits!

Doug,

Your enthusiastic replies always display a charming naiveté. When we need a response from the more child-like Forumites, you can always be counted on. Thank you for YOUR continual contributions, matane!

I read your posts in the "Moderator" thread and now in this one. My observation is that your positions are inconsistent. In one you seem to be against antagonistic responses and in this one, while you did mention you were impressed with the video, you made that secondary to an unnecessary shot at Stevie which was in fact, neither a sure thing or pertinent to the subject of the thread.

Is it your intent to start trouble???

As to the content of the thread, I found the first very interesting and the one posted by Chuck extremely interesting and it gave me a whole new respect for guys who fight with a sword while wearing a dress.:D

The "big white fella" is James Williams, spent an hour with him last week at SHOT, we have been friends for over 10 years. I know his entire family. He has been studying some form of martial art or another for over 30 years, and is in top shape for someone of any age, yet he is over 60 years old. He travels to Japan many times per year and studies with Kuroda Tetsuzan Sensei, head of the Tamiya Ryu. He has come to my dojo to put on demonstrations, and was most generous with contributions of cutting mats and time spent with cutting technique. I have seen James cut at many events, including Blade and have assisted him in his demonstrations, including cleaning his swords after cutting at Blade(which is a very great honor, swordsmen can be very picky about who touches their swords).

James is an EXCELLENT cutter. He has a much different style than I do, and somewhat different views on Japanese swordsmanship, but has been a generous and inspiring guide in this great mystery. Joe Paranee knows James a bit as well.

Scary to say the least. If you got into it a fight with that guy and he had his sword, he could actually "choose" with parts to cut off of you; SCARY.

This is a fact of most competent swordsmen.....target choice is measured in inches....Hataya Sensei says if you are decent cutter, you should be within 1 1/2" of your intended cut.

The head is always the target in battle BTW, in JSA, there is little honor in carving up your opponent like a turkey.
