Haven't posted anything for a while so I thought I'd post a pic of a knife I put together for a friend for Christmas. He's a big coon hunter so he should get a kick out of this one.
Thanks for looking!!! Ron

Awesome, Ron ! Yeah, I though I'd missed the stacked flavour for a while ! How did you do the raccoon ? Is it mosaick-ed in, or masked off and etched separately ? Beautiful knife, again. Jason.

Absolutely awesome !!! Could you explain how you made the 'portrait ' of the racoon ?

That ,my Friend ,is TOO COOL !! I myself love to coon hunt. Nothin like listening to a bunch of Hounds hollerin at night !! Now , How did you do that ?

Cool, now how'd ya do the the 'coon!?:)

Blade's awsome, but where's the rest of the knife? I enjoy looking at your handles too.

Is that the two-color G10 in there, Ron?

Will, was the pic of the whole knife not there when you first posted?? I see it....

That's great Ron!! I'm betting that you masked off that area (where the coon is lurking) first with fingernail polish, then made the scene on etching paper, then etched it. This much like you do your name. Now, if it wasn't done that way, I'm on the edge of my seat watching this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Robert,

Hope you're hanging in there! See that little line of unetched steel around the "tree"? I'll bet on just the other order, just for grins:

etch racoon in with stencil
mask off with nail polish
etch blade.

:)

:) Thank's everyone for the nice things said about this Coon Hunter Special knife. Sorry it took me so long to reply, I've been busy in the shop working on knives. I'll try and go throught the process of putting the picture on the blade. First off I found that old Racoon picture looking out of that hole in the tree in an old hunting magazing like Outdoor Life or Field & Stream. It was a small black & white picture in the back of the magazine under the advertising section. Then I scanned it into the computer and printed that off on an over head clear progection sheet that I then made the stencial out of in my home made light box. Then I just took the blade to pretty much a mirrow finish and etched the picture in the blade just like I do my name. Then just masked off the coon picture & my name with finger nail polish and stuck it in acid to show the Damascus patern without hurting the picture or my name. Hope this answers your questions, if not just ask again and I'll try and do a better job of explaning it. Thank's again for all the nice things you guys said about it!!
Ron

Here is another one I did last week except this one is in CPM S30V instead of Damascus with the same old Coon picture etched into the blade along with my Montana Blizzard pattern also acid etched into it. Oh by the way all those snow flakes or dots are done one at a time with fingernail polish and a pionted round piece of rod. Thank's for looking!! Ron

Sorry Jason, I'll try and controll my self in the future. LOL

Mike- The red in that knife is just the old vulcanized fiber stuff. I ran out of the multi colored G10 some time ago that you gave me. It did work good though! Ron

I dunno, man. I think the blade needs to be at least a foot longer before it would make a good coon huntin' knife. Oh, wait a minute... :D :D

Seriously, that's a cool design.

Amazing job!! I have to try that. I was thinking of doing somthing like that with motorcycles since my father owns a motorcycle shop. Thanks for the inperation :)

Ron, I'm coming up to bother you soon. You obviously have waaaaay too much time on your hands! :)

Those are both beautiful knives.
