COOPER Custom

can anyone tell me about Cooper knifes? i picked up a knife that says Cooper (inside an eagle)TM V Custom. the blade is 4 3/4" and the knife is 9" over all. the handle is a dark laminated material with a scale look. can anyone give me any info on this knife maker?

John Nelson Cooper was a knifemaker who worked out of Burbank for many years, Jody Samson was his apprentice for a while I believe.

He made a LOT of knives........mostly big ones, including the knives for the movie about James Bowie w/Alan Ladd.

His knives are highly sought after, but especially the rarer ones.

I think he passed away about 15 years ago.......I am sure a lot of people on here know a lot more about his history than I do.

There is a member of this forum that I would consider to be one of the foremost experts on Cooper knives. His name is David Boone and a few years ago he established The Cooper Knife Historical Society. I am not sure if this group still exists, but I know David is still around.
