What steel did John Nelson Cooper use? The only write-up I've found says "... It is made from the finest steels, high carbon tool steel is used exclusively. ..." My guess would be O-1 but that is just a guess. Anyone?

I am not sure about the steel that John Nelson Cooper used, but when Clif Lenderman and his sons made the Cooper knives they did indeed use O1. This came straight from Clif Lenderman.

I have and old article somewhere that showed Cooper making a knife and the article stated he used 01......and I also found it odd that the article said that the steel was heat treated before it was ground.....maybe that part was incorrect?

There was a lady and her grandkid at the Blade Show last year with an AMAZING amount of J N Cooper knives................I looked at them for a long time........many shapes and sizes that I had never seen before.

Yes, there was an article in an old Guns and Ammo that mentioned 0-1 being used. If you can find a copy, the old Guns and Ammo Guidebook to Knives has J.N. Cooper taking you step by step through his knife making process.
