Let's cut to the chase:

Well, I'm not fast these days at churning these kits out. This one has occupied my scattered time for the last three months! This is the venerable GX6 dagger from KnifeKits.com, and it's the second one I've done with the jigged 'impala' horn scales.

This is for a customer (BF member)--who was VERY kind when I told him I wasn't going to meet his March deadline. He said: "Just work on it when you're inspired! I can wait." Thanks. :) (He's away for a few days, so I'm slippin' this in here...)

In the meanwhile I tried a few new things:
  • Sharp beveled edges on the SS dovetailed bolsters
  • Single flute on the bolster w/.008" border cuts
  • My 'Fantail' filework on a full SS backspacer
  • Scroll filework on liners - three sides
  • Polished well and backspine inside
  • Hand-rubbed 400 grit blade finish
  • Bronze washers

It's pretty busy, I know. But it's cool if you appreciate that! This is NOT a lightweight--it has some heft, and I like it that way. (No stinkin' titanium! ;))

I have a BRAND NEW camera, and this is one of the first trials. (Sony DSC-F717 5.0mp w/Zeiss lens) Don't make a huge difference once you size it down to websize, though.

I'm happy with it all--knife and pic. Damn nice for a kit, huh? :D

Coop (Website pending..... :))

Someday, SOMEDAY, I will complete the full-out handmade I have started, with George Dailey's tutoring. Don't get too anxious, though... ;)

I'm jealous. I really like that style of knife, and you did a beautiful job of it. The jigged impala and the backspacer are especially impressive.

Very Nice Work Coop.

You keep knocking our socks off with beautiful kit knives (and your photos of course).

Keep up the fabulous work.

:)

Coop,

Nice work! I love your "fantail" pattern on the backspacer. I think I'd prefer rounded edges, but it looks great the way it is.

Great job Coop! Love that impala handle, filework on the backspacer and those beveled bolsters. It all comes together very well.

Cheers,

Roger

Thanks guys! :D You're good supporters.

I had fun doing this one, although I put off the filework for some time. No question this area takes the most concentration and practice.

George: I expect to have a table with my photo setup at this show. Both days. This will be *my* 'Blade Show' instead. I can't make the real deal. Aaarrrggh. Doubtful I'll have more than one or two kits to display. I'm booked for my next already!

See ya there,

Coop

It looks nice, but its got all those grooves all over the place. Do you think you can fix those?:p

Yep, I can see where all those hours went. Great job, Coop!
