A couple of Days ago on the Sticky Thread at the top of the Custom and Handmeade Knives page, Jim Cooper made an announcement about how he has upgraded his website.

If most of you guys are like me you probably only visit that thread occasionally. It is worth reading.

He now has about 5,000 knife images loaded to his site. It is basically a virtual museum of his knife images. Anyone who wants to see knives by a certain maker can just type in the name and search the site.

This must have taken alot of work.

Here is what he posted:

Hi friends,

We have been working diligently in the past few weeks upgrading our website. It's taken me many hours. Doing so, we have raised the bar once again on service back to our clients and the community.

I have included an additional 3500 images that have been previously only seen on dealer websites, if at all. Plus I have included all the studio work prior to 2007. It was a shame to limit these incredible knives to our private library.

The SharpByCoop.com Gallery now has all our dealer clients images viewable in alphabetical order by index. There's more....

The most viable new option is this feature:
ALL the images are searchable to create a ‘virtual gallery’ of a specific maker’s work.

Type one name into the search window, enter, and in seconds every image we have taken over the years is there to view in thumbs and will expand to admire. What a treat!

Consistently updated opening Gallery of ‘Featured Knives’ which are my latest studio clients and some faves from my dealers. More exposure.

Other benefits:
  • Full Screen ability to expand away the menu bars on browsers
  • Slideshow access with user-programmable delay
  • Guestbook comments available - Albumwide
  • Future ability to ‘tag’ images with keywords, such as engraver or style of knife. More selection.
  • You may link to a page, or send an email of that page to a friend.
  • Search results are in date order – Newest to oldest.
  • All other static Galleries are in alphabetical order
Also new is the Shopping Cart access and convenience for those who may be interested in the purchase of the previously unavailable website dealer’s work, or ANY of the work that’s been done.

Prints large and small, digital files, non-watermarked dealer shots, all available through the Shopping cart.
Payments through Paypal, or a simple cart ‘wish list’ invoice emailed directly to us, so we can work out the alternative payment details later on our own.

We’ve done this for a number of reasons:
  1. To provide added value to my existing clients—website and studio.
  2. To allow unseen work to be viewed and potentially acquired
  3. As a service to the knife-loving community
  4. As a service to make OUR work easier to help guide clients, editors, and collectors.
Let us know if you find this valuable. Thanks! :)

Whoa! Thanks Coop! This is amazing -- this is going to take me a while. You've turned your site into the premier custom knife reference gallery on the net. Much appreciated!

Well.... (blushing brightly)

Hi Jim. Sooner or later everyone was going to figure this out. You just gave me a bigger boost. :D

BTW, linking in from Bladeforums, then Google are usually my biggest 'referrals'. You know where my biggest hits were from in Dec. 2009? Russian and Spanish Gun forums. SOMEONE must have created a big stink over there....

Wait till they catch wind of this. :)
I was checking out his Hill Pearce collection earlier..AMAZING! Thanks Mr./Mrs. Cooper!
A man after my own heart. Even my wife Susan thinks they are the coolest! Thank you.

You have single handedly boosted the custom knife community by your efforts.

A great archive from which we will reap benefits year after year.

It doesn't even seem that long since you've been taking pics. Great contribution...

^^ Jose, I've actually got about 400 more from about 2002-2003 that I didn't upload. Ugghhh.

The knives are wonderful. The photography: not so much.

The searchable database of photos is totally freaking awesome.

You are an amazing asset to the custom knife world. Thank you!!!!

Just had a chance to float around in that universe of knives. Thanks so much for doing it Coop! I know I'll spend hours out there.

What a great labor of love. I could spend hours there and still haven't seen half of what's available. Great job Coop.

I spent quite a while last night browsing, searching, drooling, gasping... Jim the website is incredible. Such an amazing resource for collectors and enthusiasts.

And, yet another reason for makers to have their knives professionally shot by Coop!

WOW !! What an amazing, AMAZING, collection of knives you've had the opportunity to photograph over the years !!

Fantastic work Coop !

The pictures and your website are off the charts.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
If anyone ever wondered why we get so darn excited about knives, a simple visit to Jim's website would answer everything.

Thank you for taking the time to put that together

GREAT site Coop. Seems like it was NOT long ago that I saw you set up at one of the NCCA shows, and I had never seen anyone photographing knives so meticulously and proficiently!
