I have a coote belt grinder and was thinking about getting the small wheel attachment. Has anyone had any experince with this setup. How easy was it to switch back and forth from hollow grinding to small wheel grinding? Also what other accessories would anyone recommend for this belt grinder.
Here is a picture of the attachment.

Have had one for 6yrs my advice sell it and get a KMG1
It works ok but must run at a slow speed so variable speed motor is a must.

That set up doesn't look like mine, I've got two wheels and they save a lot of time and work, but it takes a few minits to switch back and forth. If you set it up like in your photo then all you should have to do is take the belt off one roller and tilt the machine forward and put the belt on the small wheel. I have to knock the pin holding the wheel out and put the small wheel bearing assembly in and unbolt the chanel frame and move it up and rebolt it. Sound complicated but only takes a couple of minits.

One of these days I'm going to get a KMG, what a machine!

I think that the small wheel set up on the Coote in the picture is one of the best values for the money out there. Start with a 1 1/2 HP motor and step pulleys and up date with a variable speed motor. If that setup was available years ago I would still be using it instead of my Burr King. The Coote is by far the fastest change to a small wheel set up that I have seen. Gib

I agree with Gib!
That is a handy looking setup. If you'll notice, the belt goes around the small wheel, and goes straight back to the drive wheel, it doesn't cant off at a wider angle like a Burr King would. That will allow you to get into tighter radii without taking the corners off of it.

I use two Burr Kings, and have small wheel attachments for them, but use an old discontinued Blademaster grinder for small wheel work, as it's belt runs back similar to the Coote.

I called Norm Coote today and am getting the small wheel attachment, Knife rest and 9" sanding disk. So thanks for all the advise. Maby later on when I get a little better at making knives, I'll get a KMG!!
