Christmas bonus fairy was good to me. I am now going to get a grinder. I've narrowed it down to 2. Frink KMG-1, or a Coote 2"X72".
Which is better? Is one better? I prefer flat grinding, but understand a contact wheel is a good idea if I want to do re-curve blades. I can get the KMG, and wait for the motor and belts, or I can get the Coote, motor, and any belts I would need. Which way would ya'll go? BTW Alan Folts RULES!

I've been using the KMG-1 all day today and it is fantastic. I love the fact that I can change tooling arms in about 1 minute so I can jump from platen to 10" wheel to small wheel very quickly as I'm profiling. Belts change in seconds and the whole machine is built like a tank. I don't think you'll find as versatile and heavy duty a machine anywhere else. Rob is also very pleasant to deal with and answers emails promptly.

Howdy There....!
My two cents isto get the Rob Frink..!! It is the strongest grinder I have ever used, solid as a rock and tracks great. I think that you would really get your money's worth with Rob's machine. Heh, Allen does make a pretty good folder....!

I've never used or even seen a Coote grinder other than in their brouchure/sales literature. I've also never heard anything bad about them either, in fact it's always been positive comments. On the other hand, I've been using a Frink KMG1 for 6 months and it is simply awesome. It is built tank solid and runs very smooth. There are more options for the KMG1 and Rob is usually willing to modify what ever you need. The Coote set up will run you a bit less but I believe Rob's grinder is top of the line. I had the same choice you did earlier this year and went with the KMG1 and I would do it even quicker today.

my first 2x72 was a coote. and for $500 i had a real machine pulleys and motor. rob's brings hi praise's these days and if you have the cash is most likely the way to go. he is building a 9" reversable disc grinder for me. can't wait! i will then be set! with the coote, a hardcore and a frink i will have run out of excuse's
:D

I have never see a Coote but I really like my Frink grinder. Great machine and very versatile!
