Just ground out my first 2 blades on the Coote and I'm lovin' it. Very smooth and quiet. I've got a couple questions though. Is anyone using a ceramic liner on her? (I noticed after the 2 blades that the platten was already getting chewed up) Also, the knife rest for the contact wheel leaves something to be desired. Anyone make any mod's they want to share?

I put a ceramic on my Coote and found it made a bit difference check with Darren at Ellis Custom he supplies ceramic liners as for the tool rest I found the same thing and would be interested in any mods.

I'm sure you know already, but be sure to put some kind of support lip for the Pyroceram to ride on in case the jb weld or whatever you use to attach it fails.

There have been horror stories about the stuff coming loose and grenading.

Thanks for the info; I hadn't seen that about grenading. (doesn't sound like any fun) Has anyone tried a hardened platten? I would think that alone would be an improvement without the explosives.

New platens for the coote are not that expensive and if yours is like mine the platen is reversible for twice the ware. There are tapped holes on both sides.

I found that when I put my liner on, the belt really rides on it hard, making it louder and worse yet, lifting the belt in the middle with fine belts.
it leaves some nasty gouges while trying to make a flat.
I tried smoothing out the top edge of the liner but didn't have time to finish it, if that doesn't work I plan on moving the platen back, when I get the time to fart around. if all else fails I'll be taking the liner off :(
