Here's one I'm just finishing. Gentleman wanted a 6 inch "old-time" Bowie knife with an Oosik handle so I came up with this.
Blade is acid washed W2, fittings are file worked and heat blued carbon steel with hammered copper adornments.
Knife is 30 pieces total. I really enjoyed experimenting with the patina.

That is pretty cool. Ive got some really low layer damascus I wanted to do an old design with. This gives me alot of ideas.

That's a great blade and the copper adds well... awesomeness!? I would think it'd be a worrisome challenge peening that pommel against the oosik. Is that something you were concerned with during the process?

Hi Chad and thanks for your post. I really enjoyed working the copper into this knife.
Re: peening the tang - I tapped the pommel nut and then annealed & threaded the
end of the tang so the peening didn't really stress the Oosik, it just flared the tip
protruding past the nut. For visual effect really, just to go with the style of the knife.
I did have the Oosik stabilized for good measure.

Take care,

I like this one. I love to see and to work with copper on knives. you used it to great effect in this one. thanks for sharing, and also discussing some of your technique.
