Copper Corby Bolts?

none that i have seen dave
hell i have even had to hammer big wire to cold work it semi hard to make pin stock for a project

Dave, I have never seen or heard of them in copper. I just use 1/4" or 5/16" round copper rod for large copper rivets. Chamfer the hole a bit, use slow set epoxy to install the rods ( and glue up the scales), and peen them before the epoxy sets. Copper expands so well that it will make a good strong rivet. Do a few test rivets in a piece of scrap to get the feel of your copper's hardness.

I think copper fittings look cool as can be. What do you guys do to keep them clean and shiny?

Renaissance Wax is supposed to be the best but I haven't tried it yet.

My wife makes copper jewelry and we keep it clean with a salt and vinegar solution. You probably wouldn't want to use that on a knife but it makes bulk polishing of your copper stock super easy. Just put some white vinegar in a ziplock baggy with a teaspoon or so of salt then put in the copper and light tarnish just dissapears.

I think a cloth for cleaning sterling silver would work well too, they work great on brass.

i really need to get my lathe set up then i could jsut make 2 or 3 as i needed them in whhat ever stock i wanted to (even gane)

Y'all need to contact James at Pops Knife Supply. He has a machine that makes corby's. Maybe he can do special requests. Maybe.

Thanks, Andy, I had forgotten about Jim at Pop's. I'll give him a call.

One problem with machining copper is it is the gummiest stuff to work. Many machinists hate it with a passion.

Dave, if Jim will make a special order in Copper and in Bronze, I would go in on a part of that run. In the 1/4" size could use 100 in bronze and 50 in copper.

If you want, I'll give Pop's a call tonight, and make a bulk order for us. Let me know what size you want and in what metal.

I'll see him at Harrisonburg in six weeks. If he can make us a batch by then, I could pick it up and pay for it all, and send you your part.

I like Corby's with a 3/16" female shaft and 1/4" shoulder. 1/4" x 5/16" would be my second choice. If a batch comes together, I'm in!

I'm calling Jim. I'll let you know what he says. From the response, it will surely be worth his time. Now, we have to find out if he has the time.

Hey Friends,

I’d probably be good for a few hundred bucks towards a bulk order for 3/16”, ¼” and 5/16” silicon bronze bolts. I wouldn’t want them too short though. It’s a lot easier to cut them down than to stretch them! ;)

Stacy, I'll forward a couple batches of correspondence I had with Pop and another fella (Steve of Precision Plus via Knife Dogs) on this subject in the advent there's any info that might help.

It sure would be great to be able to have these available.

Thanks so much guys! --Phil
