Copperhead?

The recent thread on copperheads, has peaked my curiosity. Now I want one, but have a few questions.

1. Should a true copperhead have two blades? Or does the name only refer to the handle?

2. While I might buy an inexpensive Rough Rider to start, I wanted to know what everyones preferred brand is? Do you like Case, Boker, Queen, or something else. I'm really considering either Boker or Queen.

3. What is your preference in handle material, wood, bone, or stag?

I appreciate all the input.

I love the IXL/RR/Queen look of it
2 almost identical blades and curved handle

Good question about wether it should have one or two blades. I don't know the answer to that.

Mt favorite slipjoint brand is Case but any of those mentioned should serve you well.

A Rough Rider or Case knife will likely have a good usable edge on it right out of the box. The Queen probably won't. I cannot comment on Boker since I don't own any.

I like bone handles the best but stag can be pretty sweet too.

Having said all that, the only Copperhead I own is a Rough Rider with red bone scales. It's a great knife.

I feel that the correct copperhead is a two blade, with drop point skinner and clip blades. If you can find one of the RR stag models (#659) for under $25, that's probably the best value.
Boker Tree Brand (German made) is an excellent one for the money as well, but about $25-$30 more.

If you prefer a single blade, the Case Copperlocks are very nice, and come in medium and large sizes.

Queen City Cutlery (QCC) has economy models--with composite handles and 1095 blades--available in the $25 range online.

Well I'm no knifery eggspurt but from
what I've lurnt just hangin' around the copperhead
refers to unusual shape of bolster on blade pivot end.
Plenty of single blade copperheads around.
Case _249 has pen secondary most of the time but
other brands seem to prefer skinner secondary.

Now why the Case mini Copper has funny bolster on
non pivot end and still gets to be a 'copperhead' I
dunno. But if there is such a thing as an 'untrue'
Copperhead, I guess that be it.

Case Copperhead and Copperlock shape of handle I like best.
Others seem to like more taper on bottom end.
I have Case & Queen examples, Boker should be fine from
what I've seen of their other patterns.

Hope this helps a lil, good luck with your snake knife hunt.

They are crazy prices for such a good knife with the Clip and Skinner (like the Soddie) blades in 1095 and swedging, and a non-descript black wood bolsters
I got four knives like this, a mini-toothpick, a Gunstock, a Copperhead and a Trapper for under a 100!!

I have a Queen single blade Copperhead in Maple and D2. A very slim but very sturdy knife that has a good Walk and Talk. Much more sturdy than a Canal 1/2 Moon

I agree, the Queen City "economy" series are a great buy. Here's a picture of the one I have:

My other Queen is a gold lip pearl single blade made in 2003:

I think this style is a bit more the "traditional" copperhead pattern than the version that Case is making, but their version is really nice as well with the small pen secondary. I saw one a while back that I really wanted because it had a full length wharnecliffe secondary, but I did not win the bidding war on it.

I bought the two blade Boker candy stripe. and then turned it into a single blade. I wanted a thin knife I could carry in my pocket and really like the candy stripe.

i have a case copperlock with blue bone scales, ss blade and a queen copperhead with honey bone scales and D2 blade. i prefer the queen because its a bit thicker so its easier to hold and use. but the blue bone on the case is excellent looking.

Böker Tree Brand (Germany) do an outstanding Copperhead in carbon. Very sturdy knife and decently turned out.

I do admire the CASE variant that Todd shows but unfortunately I don't have one. I like the Clip/Pen model in particular.

Queen make a nice single blade copperhead but I can't find the one I'm after in their White Carved Stagbone series.

I like the Case copperhead with the wharncliffe and pen blades. Does Case make a single blade wharncliffe like that?
