Copperheads?

Anybody love them or hate them? Why are they so seldom mentioned compared to trappers, stockmen, canoes or peanuts?

Is it a foreign pattern? It seems that no American companies make a two blader.

I just got a Boker copperhead, simply smitten for the moment anyway.

I look at them like "1/2 a canoe" and like a canoe, I think they carry well since the bolster covers the tang when the knife is closed. Some of the nicest I have seen came out of Bill Ruple's shop.

I suppose CASE Copperlock is a kind of variant in single blade.

Copperhead is very handy as the tang can't rip against pockets. Good question if it is a non American pattern-shouldn't think so as the copperhead is an American snake! Weidmannsheil make a 2 bladed Tricklock with the Copperhead pattern covering the tangs.

I used to own a Ruple Copperhead and loved the design and feel, especially in the pocket.

But I sold it to satisfy my changing tastes for single-bladed folders. When I think of a copperhead I think Bill Ruple handsdown.

This is a beautiful knife that is pictured -- which i am now the proud owner of thanks to Sierra. Still one of my favorites. It is one of the larger Copperheads. I also own a beautiful stag Ruple Copperhead that is a bit smaller in size.

I really agree that Bill Ruple seems to have nailed the Copperhead design perfectly.

I will admit the Copperhead is my favorite design. Most that I have are Case Brand, but I have a few German made knives also. Later, Bob

I havea Boker copperhead in smooth red bone that I like. I think of it as a sort of compact trapper. I got it as an elegant edc for dress/work attire, but I found that it is just a bit too big and heavy for dress pants. I'm hoping to get a peanut during the holidays for this purpose.

I like copperheads, to me they are shrunken folding hunters. Two are Queens, one is a #41 stag, the other is a #41L carved stag bone; the others are a stag Bulldog and a Boker built stag Henckels. I wish Queen would make some more two bladed stag copperheads, like many years ago.

It is my favorite traditional pattern as well. I probably have 30 or so from different from a mixture of companies....love em....my favorite right now...and in my pocket is the Boker Grand Canyon.

Thanks for the link, those are some very nice photos. The one I just got is the brown washboard bone.

Know what I really love (but only from afar right now, sadly)? The large Case 2-blade copperheads. I believe some folks call them the Case "Vietnam" knife, but don't ask me why.

I only have one, a Boker (green picked bone) but one of may favorites - it's actually what brought me into the world of traditional folders.

I love the Case Copperhead. Also have a Copperlock Wharncliffe.

Case makes a variety of this style. For years, until I hooked up with this site, I was not aware that any other company made them.
