copy & paste instructions?

Say, when I've put up a post; and someone has replied; and now I want to post a 'reply to his reply' {gosh, I hope my commentator doesnt later want to post a reply to my reply to his reply...} I'm shown on the screen a jumbled-up, mixed-letters-and-numbers, 2 lines of code that I have to laboriously type into my search box, in order to properly address my reply.

Now, I can see that this copying job is exactly the sort of task that <copy and paste> was made to perform. Can anyone tell me the
steps in <copying then pasting> that apply to this
address-in order-to-post copy job? Thanks. --- JDM

I am not clear on what you are asking. Mainly because I am not sure how a "search box" figures in on the question.

To quote a post click on the Quote button at the bottom right of each post. You will get a reply screen with the post you wish to quote and you can add your reply.

To copy and paste. Highlight the text you wish to copy. Left click your mouse and choose copy. Navigate to where you wish to past the copied text (a reply screen?). Left click your mouse and select paste.

I know this is pretty obvious and may not answer your question so help me out a little and one of us will be glad to lend a hand.
