I bought a bunch of Corby style rivets from Sheffield Knife supply they were suppose to be 1/4 inch head 3/16 guide so I bought what I thought was the corresponding pilot drill bit. Turns out the Rivets are just atad like the next size on each dimension over anyone know what I can do the last group of knives I tied to scale were sheer agony. I would wrather not try to sand them all is there a supplier with a bit I might use??

I use the step drills from Pop's Supply and have no trouble.I use about 200 rivets a year.I tried the drills with a separate pilot bushing. They seemed problematic.I drill the Pilot holes through with both scales taped together, using a drill bit slightly smaller than the guide portion of the rivet. This way the holes are lined up straight. Then run the step drill through each side with the scales separated. This makes sure the guide holes are square to the tang.I test fit the entire setup before glue-up.If there is a tight hole it is usually due to one of the holes not being square to the other side.A little wiggle on the step drill quickly opens up the hole a little more,if needed. They don't need to be squeaking tight in the holes, since the glue fills all the extra space.I tint the epoxy to match the wood color.Hope this helps.

I do pretty much the same but the rivets seem a little off size I am wondering if ther is another drill bit out there the rivets themselves don't even fit the drill gauge size.

Sounds like you have the wrong step drill.... I've used the corby style and the loveless pins with no problem. Check your diameter with a micrometer and see what's going on. Let us know what you find out.

your right! The bolts from Miss Ann at Shefields is slightly larger. The Pilot hole in the bigger bolts is much larger. I ended up ordering the bit from Shefields to match their bolt. Most of the suppliers either make or have made these bolts so the dementions are some what different from each. Use bolts, adn reamer from the same sourse. Mike

Ok Mic'd it all out can't remeber the all the numbers but bolts are bigger Iand I am going to either ordr a reamer from Sheffield Or snad my ars off till I use up the stock. By the way had to buy a Micrometer to do it se you guys later going to return this one and go up a model.

ditto. TKS tells you on their rivets page which step bits correspond to which rivets. they've worked great for me, fits like a glove.
