Cord wrap the Campanion?

I just recieved a Campanion, and I'm a bit overwhelmed, to say the least. I don't know what I expected really, but this thing is massive. It makes my Busse Badger Attack look and feel small.

What I'm thinking is maybe cord wrapping the handle will help, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Has anyone done this?

Mike,
I havn't done the Campanion before, but the dynamics are the same. First things first. Gut the paracord. Take the time (and it will take a little time) to remove the inner cord. This allows the paracord to go on smoother and not add too much to the bulk. The rest is just a matter a patience in laying the cord wrap on and redoing it until it is what you want.
Some folks finish by applying a liberal dose of epoxy resin to the finished wrap, but I like to leave mine alone in case I need a few feet of paracord in a pinch. It won't be as strong as full paracord because the inner fibers are gone, but it will be there when I need it.
If all else fails, drop me a line and we'll find time to meet up either in SA or Austin and I can take a stab (pathetic pun) at it for you.
I'll probably try it out on the Brute I'm picking up this next week.

recondoc1,

Thanks much for the info, and also for the offer to help out if we can get it all in one sock at the same time :)

I might go out and buy myself 50 feet of 550 cord and try wrapping the Campanion this weekend, if I can get the time to do it.
Of course, once it's wrapped, I'm going to need a new sheath for it, as the factory sheath encloses a bit of the scales.

Here is another question: Are replacement scales available for the Campanion? Say, if I took the scales off of mine, sanded/ground them a bit thinner, and did not like it, could I buy a new set?

Mike,
I'm glad you are pleased with your BK2[CAMPANION]. I'm not sure why you want to cord wrap the scales, but I would think they would be pretty "bulky" after doing so. I would suggest using the BK2 as is for awhile before any modification, as I think you will like it as it is.

The scales are not solid, so you might want to take them off and look underneath before you try any modifications. We can't mold the GV6H solid, because of the shrinkage rate. The scales are plenty strong and thick, with reinforcements around the bolt holes. I have heard of some folks taking the scales and lightly sandblasting them to increase the traction. Keep in mind, when you increase traction, you also increase the probability of blisters and discomfort during extended usuage.

I hope this helps. Again, I would suggest using the BK2 awhile as is, before deciding to attempt and modifications. ALOT of thought went into the handle design, and we have quite a few satified customers

We don't normally sell replacement scales, but if you need a set, I'm sure we can take care of you. We want you to be a happy customer, whether you get crazy with the handle modifications or not:rolleyes:

Will,

You are spot on, as usual. I have come to the conclusion that cord wrapping the Campanion is not a good idea, for the very reason that you stated.
Also, I have now found that the handles are not solid, again as you stated, so any real modifications are out of the question. I do appreciate the offer to accomodate my possible need for replacement scales though.

Overall, I am now more pleased with the Campanion than I was when I first got it. I was overwhelmed when it first arrived. I had bought the Campanion, without ever having actually seen or handled one, with the intent of actually carrying it discreetly. When I did finally get the chance to see and handle one, the handles were an obvious obstacle to discreet carry. This led me to the erronous conclusion that I would need to cord wrap it.
I understand now that cord wrapping would not solve the discreet carry problem, and I have become quite fond of the handles just the way they are. Then of course there is the massive blade to contend with....
