Cord wrapped handle

I've finished up a combat utility knife with a 550 cord wrapped handle. I've heard people talk about using epoxy on cord wraps. How would I do that? Do I just put epoxy over the top after the wrap is done? Or soak the cord then wrap it? Either way, sounds like a mess! Can anyone help? Thanks.

What I do is trim the bristles on a flux brush till they're about 3/8" long to make them stiffer, then paint the epoxy on after the wrap. Work it in a bit with the brush, don't get too much on, and try not to do more than one coat. It's easier than it sounds and works very well.

the epoxy for doing fiberglass in boats and autbody work is nicely thin and would make a nice treatment for coating a handle. paint it on after wrapped as dave suggested.
