Cord Wrapped Handles

I have recently decided to attempt to make some tanto style knives which is a style that I have not attempted before. It is easy to figure out a straight cord wrapping that would run from a front bolster to a rear bolser or pommel. My question is this, where can I get information on the proper method for completing a Japanese Style Cord Wrapped Handle.

yoteman,

I've tried the above mentioned site posted by Cougar and it's not bad, actually its the only one I've found with pictures, I've got O.K. results (still don't know about the paper triangles that are mentioned). Another tsukamaki (handle wrapping) site to try is:
http://www.mcn.net/~jswords/tsukamaki.html

Actually I just ordered a video on Tsukamaki today from Japanese swordsmith Tatsuhiko Konno on the west coast for $25.00. I should get it by the end of this week. His site is:
http://www.iserve.org/fujishiro/sword.htm

If you like I'll post my review of the video.

You can also get supplies like Tsuka-Ito (silk cord - $3.50 per foot) and Same (Stingray skin - $70.00) at Bugei Trading Company.
http://www.bugei.com

If anybody has any other sources for Ito and Same I'd be glad to hear them.

Hope this helps.

Take care,
Tom

You could try the blades 'n' stuff homepage. If I remember correctly, the catalog has some info about japanese cord wraping. It also gave descriptions and diagrams.
