Cordage for Wallet Survival Kit

I've lately been working on developing "layered" survival kits--I've got a bugout bag for myself at home, a slightly-smaller one that I carry in my car, a still-smaller one in the office. The idea is to have duplicate/backup kits with the basics in every place I'm ever likely to be, but adjusting the amount of gear to make it practical to carry.

One thing I'm working on is a wallet kit--trying to incorporate at least a few bare-bones basics into a size small enough to carry everywhere in a wallet. For knife, I think a ToolLogic card, SwissCard, SpyderCard, or AccessCard has promise. For fire-making, a magnifying card might do the trick. One thing I haven't yet figured out a good way to do, though, is to carry cordage in some kind of card-like configuration. I'm thinking that 60-85-pound test braided fishing line is a likely way to carry a useful amount of cordage in a tiny package--but any ideas about how to package it usefully for wallet carry?

How about replacing the dental floss in one of the smaller dental floss thingees - the 1/4" x 1" disk-type containers -- if the dental floss isn't good enough.

What I like to carry is artificial sinew.

Unroll it, then wind it in a small loop, then put it in an "envelope" of waxed paper. You won't even know it's in your wallet. For those not familiar with this stuff, google it. It has tons of uses.

Yep, the wife and I use the artificial sinew quite a bit. Strong stuff. For my kits, I prefer Natural Jute twine. It's strong 4 ply cordage and works well as a firestarter. As far as making it wallet friendly, I wouldn't think that you would be able to carry much length and keep your wallet reasonably flat and comfortable to carry. Myself, I would use an old credit card and wind the cordage around it in both directions and ending by using gum glue to fasten the end securely without having to tie a knot. I carry 12# spiderwire fishing line in my minikits and it's worked out just fine for shelters, fishing, sewing, etc.

i just wear a bracelet of twine and cut a little bit as i need.. in that way its both a survival item and a fashion statement :D

cheers

I've also noticed those lanyards and bracelets folks braid out of para-cord. I chuckled at first, but it's really a pretty smart idea.

I've been wearing a paracord bracelet for almost 2 years now. That , a good folder and a mini bic will get you by in a pinch.

yep my ex-gf made me a necklace out of paracord before too. it was pretty nice looking but ended up unravelling it when my bootlaces snapped on a hike.

but then again thats what its for right"?"

lol

cheers

I found some thin nylon cord (it might be kite string?) and I have about 15ft of it wrapped around the swisscard in my wallet & secured with a ranger band. Doesnt add much to the bulk & the tools are still accesible at either end.
