Cordura sheath modifications

The kydex-lined cordura sheath that comes with the new E-handles rides too low for me. I'm not a big guy so the sheath really hangs out below an untucked shirt. I was thinking about folding the loop back and sewing it down to get the sheath to be up a bit higher on my belt. Has anyone tried this with their sheaths? My other idea was to remove the loop and possibly attach a kydex belt loop or maybe a Tek-lok. Although I'm not sure how well that would work. Are Tek-loks available by themselves? I'd rather not destroy the sheath and realize 'hmm maybe that wasn't such a good idea' so that's why I'm asking. Do you think something like a kydex belt loop could be attached to this sheath?? And how would you go about doing it?

Thanks for your help,

jas10; I have also had the same complaint about my Battle Mistress. I think that maybe attaching a boot clap might work for you but what I have done is just slide the sheath under my belt with the pouch open and slide the pouch cover over the front of the belt to the velcro and it seems to ride very secure for me.

Use velcro so you can fold it down or leave it up. This is the way that Strider has their current sheaths made. You thus get both high and low ride carry.

Muzzleup, I hadn't thought about using the pouch flap. That's sounds like it might work for me. I'll have to go try it. What's a 'boot clap'? I've never heard that term before.

Cliff, I have some spare velcro laying around from another project so I'll give that a try too.

Thanks

jas10: The boot clip is the metal clip that most boot knives have for sliding over the top of a boot. I get mine from:

By far the easiest though is by using the strap on the pocket...it has a lot of velcro to engage and hold the sheath quite secure.

I've been looking to do a similar mod to my E sheaths. I am going to use a velcro strap that is sewn to the sheath behind the snap strap and run it through the existing belt loop. (folded rearward so the top of the loop is even with the top of the plastic insert).
I've also been wondering if anyone knows if using a kevlar strip on the inside of the snap web would help prevent slicing the nylon when sheathing and unsheathing?

I use Kevlar strips for backing the belt loops on sheaths that I make. I think that if you used them on the hold downs it would indeed keep them from being cut, however, everytime you run the blade over the kevlar it will also dull your knife. The kevlar I use costs $500.00 a sheet (4X8)so unless you have a source (possibly me?) it will kind of pricey to fix.

Ron, I was actually thinking along the lines of the fabric (such as is used in gloves). I just need to find an old pair to see how workable the stuff is. I'm not sure how it will even sew, and I'm not even sure if the stuff can put up with repeated cutting edge contact that it would recieve in such an application.
