ive decided to cordwrap a tanto fixed blade ive made, i know how to wrap it but i was wondering what is the best kind of cord to use? and where could i find it outside of the internet. i noticed that a few of the cordwraped knives use a epoxy coating to give the user a better grip, and the cord a longer lifespan, any ideas on how to do this?

I'm interested in this as well, although I normally use leather, some epoxy paracord wrapping info would be useful.

For a decent grippy wrap - not at all fancy - try 1/8" starter cord, using the simple 'whipping knot'.

Starter cord is a solid-core no-stretch nylon cord. It doesn't stretch, so retains its bulk and won't loosen up with use. It's available at TrueValue hardware stores by-the-foot on rolls.

Google 'whipping knot' for tying instructions. It's really quite simple to tie. If you wrap it tight, you shouldn't have to worry about it loosening with use.

Hope this helps!

A good source for braided cord in many colors and types. Call Kyle, he will work with you on smaller quantities. This is however a factory and does not sell by the inch.

Solid braid polyester is a better choice if you want no stretch. Nylon has a lot of natural inherent stretch, that's one reason they use it for parachute cord. It will stretch a long way before it breaks thus acting as a shock absorber.

If you have any sort of serious interest in this, I would strongly suggest buying Wally Hayes' video set from Paladin Press. He goes into great detail and allows you to produce a professional job immediately. There is also tons of other great info on knife/sword making as a bonus.
