Those are the three tools I'm currently researching. All are in the same basic price category. I'd like to see your opinions.

I've only got hands on experience with the Core, but know enough about Gerber and Victorinox to say you can't go wrong with either of them, although some will disagree. If you want a guaranteed good deal, you can't go wrong with Victorinox. I would get a Diesel today if I saw one on a store shelf, but it may not end up as my EDC.
The Leatherman Core is a no non-sense, heavy duty, basic multi-tool. There are no scissors or implements that deploy when the handles are closed. I doubt you'd ever break it, unlike it's big brother Surge, which has some less durable but sexier parts. Hey, buy all three and post a review:D

I have the Gerber Diesel and the Leatherman Core, and the Core is with me all the time (except without a belt, I then carry the Surge with the pocket clip) . The Diesel is in the glove compartment of the car. The Core is just a much better, heavy duty, no-nonsense tool with higher quality parts. The Diesel is decent, but the tools are smaller and thinner because they have to make room for the pliers to slide into the handle. The sheath leaves alot to be desired as well. Overall the Core can be used to take apart the Diesel without much effort:cool: .

I forgot to mention, with both the Core and the Surge I can almost completely open them with the flick of my wrist...like the SOG Powerlock which I also own. I just flick my wrist, and they open about 3/4 of the way, and then I just have to use my body to open it the rest of the way, all with one hand. NICE!

I've had just about all of them and had problems with every manufacturer. I also love them all. But when I'm done trying out the latest "flash", at the end of the day and when the dust settles, you will see a Leatherman hanging on my belt. I always stray, but sooner or later, I'm back to; the orginal, the best "at the end of the day", and the ONLY one that always, always delivers the goods.

Hope this helps, Walter

I don't have the Diesel but I have other Gerber tools. I also have the Core and the Spirit. I have EDC'd all of them but I think the Spirit wins except for the knife. It has a better fit and finish and seems to be pretty indestructable. Based on my experience with other Gerbers the Core would be my next choice.
