Well christmas time is coming around and I'd like to get another multitool and I was wondering which would be better to get a Core or a Supertool 200? I like the fact that the supertool is all metal and is slightly cheaper. The core has better looking tools and better locks but has zytel in the handles. Which do you guys like better?

I'm waiting for the Core because it has heavy duty screwdrivers and everything else that I like in the Surge. I have a Supertool 200 and it is a good piece as well. If you don't like a heavy tool, get the Supertool 200.;)

Haven't tried the Core, but I've been using the SuperTool 200 (and the SuperTool before that) and have been very satisfied. I've used it on a very wide range of applications and it's met every challenge. I also have a tool adaptor and lots and lots of bits that I occassionally carry with it. I prefer the tool adaptor because I can use it as a separte stubby screwdriver. I also prefer the tool adaptor because it uses std hex bits that I can find anywhere. Sorry if I got a little off topic there.

I have both the Super Tool 200 and the Core, The Core is far better than the ST 200. After you compare the two you will know what I am talking about. I usually keep my ST 200 in the Truck but now am thinking of getting a second Core to replace the ST 200 in the truck then I will give away the ST 200 to some poor Multi tool starved soul.

Man you can't go wrong with the supertool 200 is the best, and I have seen supertools on sale for $20 get yourself another Supertool and enjoy :)

CORE rocks!!!! Have a dozen multi tools and this is the best! My Surge is in second place. My Supertool 200 is now in the glove compartment of my car. The CORE goes with me everywhere. Finally...a multi tool for real men!!!

For me I find the locking mechanism on the Core is much easier to use than the Supertool 200. I carried several Supertools over the last two years, broke one and had it replaced with the Core. I find with wet, cold or slippery hands (oil etc.) the Supertool locks were difficult to use. No problems with the Core. weight and size are not really an issue and I am a smaller framed individual with smaller hands. As well, plastic inserts really don't diminish the feeling of quality IMO. However, handle both if you can, just be aware that the Supertool 200 is being phased out by Leatherman.

As a follow up: Is it just me or is leatherman starting to cheap out on their sheaths? The leather ones are pretty skimpy, considering they are upping the size of their tools:confused:

I just got one today and have to agree...the Surge now takes a back seat;)

I dont have a core or surge but i do have a supertool 200 and its fine but takes backseat to the victorinox swisstool , although the new leathermans might have newer features i urge you to take a look at the vic swisstool if pos compare them side to side in a shop before you buy .

I have to agree with you dunc5, however, I like the swisstool so much, I'd have a heart attack if it ever got scratched or had grease on it. I have a few knives I feel the same way about:o

I should also mention that my Tool Adapter for the Supertool 200 also fits on my Core! Another added bonus to a perfect multi tool!

Greetings all. wondering which tool of the three you folks would choose for a 72 hour emegency bag. When you can only have one and your life may depend on it, and EDC comfort is not an issue? I am looking for feedback because I want to replace my old style wave that is in my 72 hr bag now with one of these models. The wave is nice but I want something more heavy duty. I think iI am leaning toward the Core. PLMN J JJ
