OK I have a blade where I used the cork belt trick and then hand rubbed. Looks very nice.

Here's what I did:

After HT
* 220 grit on the grinder
* Some work using SC on glass and waterstones to get flat.
* 320 handsanding parallel to the edge
* mirror polish on a cork belt and green chrome
* hand rubbing with 2000 grit.

A fast way to 2000 grit and it looks nice. Except for the cloudiness. I have pink no-scratch and green chrome. I'm not use how to clear up the cloudiness and retain the nice 2000 grit lines?

I'm in unknown territory here.

Well, at 2000 grit, you are already twice as fine as most knifemakers already. I rarely see a custom knifemaker that goes further than 1500 grit, and those are few and far between too.

Myself, I would back off to 1200 grit and see what that looks like. Anybody that complains about a nice, even 1200 grit finish needs a slap in the head! :)

Thanks Danbo, I'll have to give that a go.

However, I'm still puzzled on how to clear the cloudiness from hand rubbing without ruining the lines?

I would go back to a lower grit and then back up to the fine stuff. Who am I kidding? I dont go much higher than a nice 3/4" gravel finish.:)

maybe some light steel wool would do the trick. Very light steel wool :D .

With this system how are you getting the plunge area cleaned up? You using a small-wheel attachment to get in close with the cork?

I always get cloudy spots with the higher grits (ok, haven't even gone beyond 600 yet, so back where you started from ;) ) when I'm not making the passes in a perfectly straight line in one direction. If your hand wobbles, like when you hit the plunge or come off the point crooked it makes about a million little circular scratches.

Try hot water and dish soap, or window cleaner like Windex, or Glass Plus.
It could be just from the lube you used when handrubbing.

Another thing is, use Aluminum Oxide paper from now on, but wash after, still.
