hey guys,

Some people on the outpost asked me to make a 'how to forge a corkscrew' tutorial. A few days ago, i asked a friend to take some pics while i forged out a corkscrew... The resulted 'in between steps' of the forging of a corkscrew can be seen in my album: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4285944331 (use visit01 as user name and knives as pasword when asked). The album only shows how to forge the screw. I ll try to add pics of the heat treatment and mounting of the handle...

Just to make it understandable, i ll descirbe the different procedures:
1. forge a tapered square point to the spring steel rod (started with 4mm spring steel), approx 20cm long
2. round the square bar
3. bent 90 degrees at 15 cm from the point
4. position the bend over the hardy hole, and start first curl with the point of a hammer IMPORTANT: at this point, decide if you want a corkscrew for a left or righthanded person
5. work slowly, eventually on the edge of the anvil, to continue forging the coils
6. when all the coils are forged, redress them, making sure they are all nice and even (coils sit next to eachother)
7. make the space between the coils with a knife (a good corkscrew has a hollow in the center, when you look at the tip)
8. heat treat (oil quench, spring temper)
9. attach to a handle
10. enjoy the wine
