Thanks, guys.

Who needs a "high end" corkscrew? :D

One of the easiest corkscrews for home use (ie: not really portable - but at least no need for any permanent installation) is the EZ Pull corkscrew -
I think it's available/popular mainly in the UK (I am having a hard time finding the actual manufacturer) -

Shown is the better looking aluminum (finish?) version - there is also an all black "double-resin" version - these are as low as about UK.20pds, or ~ US$40,

The operation is very easy just clamp the bottle neck using the the lower "butterfly" handles then push the upper lever down which screws in the corkscrew worm/spiral - then just lever the upper handle up to extract the cork. Hardly any force is needed - lots of people who have weakened hands use this. Comes with spare teflon coated spiral, and a foil cutter.

I have a feeling it may have been discontinued - here's an UK link for availability -

Going back to the more traditional corkscrews -

Chateau Laguiole corkscrews are worth looking at - they are really a "luxury" item - way over-priced for what they do, but....

For more practical and down to earth corkscrews that are portable and one can EDC - which makes one popular at parties :)
..... already mentioned is the SAK corkscrew -
the Minimalist SAK model - Victorinox Waiter (I've seen it as low as $10) -

Thanks lads!. It's going to be part of a house warming gift I am preparing for my wife when we move in to our new place.

I drink wine every day, I like waiters tools, here's an old picture of some of mine along with two knives, notice the difference in size of the actual screws.

On the top right is my favorite, a horn handled Chateau Laguiole, it's pretty, has great fit and finish and works well.

On the bottom right is a Jean Dubost Laguiole with olive wood scales, it is not as well made as the Chateau Laguiole but works just fine and is less pricey (I have a cheap version of this one with plastic scales and hollow bolsters, good beater to take to parties, etc.).

The one in the bottom left with Paka wood scales is French made (I've seen cheap Chinese copies of this one), it has no brand markings, well made and works but is not as nice and functional as the Laguioles

I know that you want fancy but I have to say that for pure functionality I really like Pulltaps,

Luis
