Today I took a page out of the Book of Skab!
I wanted to give the corn stock friction fire a GO!
I didn't have a lot of corn to work with so I used a helper.

THANK!!

Good stuff JCL-MD!

Every time I use the stalk as a spindle I get an ember in the notch and the end of the spindle, as the pith lights up really easy.

Now let's see a corn cob! That method would work well with even just a cob nub in that extender.

Nicely done. I was just looking at the fibrous end of a corn stalk on the last hike at Prentice Cooper, just looking at it I was pretty sure it would work with the right hearth. I may try the two stick method using corn stalks next time I have the oportunity.

I gave the 2 stick method several trys and I just kept tearing the corn stock apart. I think that the corn cob will work though!!!

THANKS!!!

Thanks for the input on that. I still want to try it to see what I can learn from it. I thought about it last time but I was short on time. Which version of the TBTK is that? I have been wanting to play with one of those for a while now just to check out the compound grind.

It's the full size one!! (BIG ONE)
