Just got a CS Pipe Hawk. Plan on using it while camping for fun. It measures 23", which seems too long. Anyone know how to determine the correct length for a throwing hawk?

i have a cs pipe hawk, i cut mine to 18.5". just try different grips for throwing, its whatevers comfortabie for you.

I like to throw the VTAC's they have a 13" handle...Works great on them !

I read that the Fur Trappers rule of thumb for a throwing 'hawk haft length is the distance from your elbow to your bent knuckle. That's 17 1/2 " on me but I like mine a little longer, about 19"-20", of course I'm not very good at it, could be why........Randy

My hawks range from 18 inches to 23 inches, I throw them all, they all stick ;-))
The pipe hawk is a bit back heavy but IMO it throws well with the 22 inch haft.
If you're going to shorten it cut 1 inch off at a time and try it till it feels good.

Best regards

Robin

IMO the length should be determined by what feels right while swinging it in hand. When you do this, try holding it 1.3 of the way up from the butt end. When you have the right length, just practice throwing it and get used to how the hawk throws.
