corroding titanium??

I seem to remember hearing that when working on the SR-71 Blackbird, all the tools had to be made without Vanadium i think, because if the Ti. was scratched with tools containing this, they would develop small cracks and possible break.

Does my memory serve me right, and does anyone take this in to account when working with T.?

And does it really matter when used for knifemaking?

And at last does other metals react in this way with other metals?

Thanks.

Ooh. Might be a touch too much metallurgy for most of us...

Wait a little while, I'm sure the alchemists will slap on their skullcaps and trudge up to the bar to chime in...

As for myself, I don't work in Ti, so I've not yet had to address the matter.
