Been trying to rid a couple knives of minor corrosion and came across a couple threads saying that CLR or scotch brite might work...does this really work and is it safe for my knives? Anybody that can give me some insight would be appreciated

What are your knives, where is the corrosion, how bad is it, what is the blade finish, etc. all things we need to know to give you a good answer.

Ok i got a benchmade mini skirmish with some corrosion in the thumbholes and a crkt pharaoh with tiny spots of corrosion along the blade. The mini skirmish has s30v stainless. The Pharaoh has a Aus 8 bead blasted blade

Coat them with mineral oil to start with and see how bad it is when you wipe it off the next day.

I'm going to move this from the General Knife Discussion to Maintenance.

Be careful with the CLR, it's acidic and could have undesired results. I'd go with Esav's advice to start.

Ive never really dealt with corrosion before but I did coat them with some oil the other day....not really sure what I should be looking for or what that did if anything.

Once the oil is soaked in good, rubbing them down with a soft cloth should remove some or all surface corrosion, and of course the film left will prevent recurrence for a while.

Are there specific brands of Mineral oil or is it just something I can pick up at a local Hardware Store?

Drug stores are the first place to look, Mineral oil IS a "Laxitive":D, baby oil with out the smell :) $2-4 for a pint and a little gos a long way:thumbup:!

I picked up a 20 oz. bottle of the house brand of baby oil at the supermarket and it was something like $3.50.
