Corrosion Cure?

So I met this guy with some amazing knives from Africa. I offered to clean up some and get the rust off, as he wasn't storing them properly. But my Flitz metal polish and elbow grease can't get the corrosion out of some of the nooks and crannies of these somewhat rough hewn knives.

Does anyone have a suggestion? Steel wool? Wire brush? I've gotten the blades bright(er) but there are still these big... VOIDS of black/brown rust that I can't rub out.

Since these are so... neglected, I feel the danger to appearance is much less than losing these blades to rust.

How do YOU get corrosion out of nooks and crannies on a rough-forged blade steel?

Thank you in advance.

I used EvapOrust available in WalMart. It is fantastic for just what you describe.
I got a bunch of dirty, rusty small knives (kardas) that were certified 100 years old.
After surface brushing with soft brass brush...
I initially used naval jelly. What a mess it didn't touch the depth of the rust. After cleaning off the naval jelly or most of it anyway. I put many kardas, in a jar of EvapOrust, in an ultrasonic cleaner. 20 minutes WONDERFUL!!
Tho I did leave some in the solution for hours.
It worked as well without the ultra sonic.
No odor or mess too.

I became aware of this product from a thread in the Himalayan Imports Khukhuri Forum in the manufacturers section. If you don't find it just do a search for evaporust. There's a link to the product site in the forum thread. You may need it if there is no WalMart near you.
Good luck
Tom

Tom, naval jelly is phosphoric acid in a gel. Do you have any idea what EvapOrust is ?
