I just purchased a Calypso Jr. and have another one on the way. I love the knife and it has already performed nicely hacking away through cardboard and soft plastic packaging. My concern now is the corrosion resistance of the VG-10 steel. Does it need a great deal of babying? I don't plan on getting the knife wet, certainly not with salt water, but at the same time I don't want to have keep oiling/cleaning it except maybe every few months. Also when oiling the Caly Jr., I thought of just taking a Q-Tip moistened with Hoppe's lube oil and wipe the interior metal parts down with that. I hope that's sufficient to keep rust at bay. Thanks in adavance for answering a Spydie/knife noob.

VG10 is pretty resistant, when you work with/near highly corrosive substances like salt water or even when cutting fruit then it is advised to wash it with hot water afater use, drying & lightly lubricationg, as long as you stick to cardboard and plastic the blade will be just fine without any care other than sharpenings, for which i think you really need to get the 204 sharpmaker.
p.s
you bought a great knife :D

In my experience VG10 is pretty care free. As long as you give it a quick rinse under the tap after you dealt with acrid or salty materials (fruits, marinated meat etc.) you should be fine. Never really oiled the blade. The pivot gets a drop of oil every once in a while. Protects it from water that may get trapped in the pivot area.

Don't worry about the interior metal parts, they're 420J2 spring steel, almost rustproof as long as you don't soak it it saltwater or battery acid. VG-10 is very rust resistant, if you see any signs of corrosion starting just hit it with flitz to remove it and prevent it from causing real rusting.
