Well, where else do I ask this?

I am a member of the F-150 forum, but it takes days to get an answer. (Guess I'm spoiled here.)

Well, I have a 99' F-150 4X4 with 3" to
2 3/4" INinto a Flow Master 40 3 chamber OUT (2) 2 1/2" to 3" tips. Well, after a VERY short period of time, the chrome tips started to rust. I checked into some stainless tips at a warehouse in Memphis, but they aren't very shiny. Well, I guess I could send the tips off to be mirror finished and blue anodized.

Maybe some file work?

Seriously, what should I do now? Check into some EXPENSIVE Dynamax outlets? Dress up the chrome tips some how? Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Oh, not bad..their only 3 months old...most could probably be removed with #00 and #000 steel wool.

Guess you could test how good Tuff-Cloth really is. Maybe get a commercial out of it. Sorry if you thought this would be a real tip, but, you never know

Hehehe...already thought of that. I'm sure it'd work fairly well, for a few days at a time anyway.

I hate to say it but you just got "cheap" chrome tips. I'm running 3" chrome tips on my 91 F-150 behind SVO shortys and twin 3" 2 chamber Flowmasters. Those tips have been on my truck for over three years now. I just got done yesterday scrapping about 3/8" worth of Alaska winter crud off of them with a gasget scrapper, hit them with an SOS pad and they shine like new.

If your tips are only "single plated chrome" then they wont last. You have to get the "triple plated chrome" stuff.

Get them PVD coated with Chromium Nitride. Unless your exhause gets over 700 degrees Celcius, they won't oxidize. Just a disclaimer: I have no idea how much PVD coating exhaust tips would cost, but I have several inquiries in with companies about coating knives, so I'll see what they say.
